Robert Wiedmaier has announced he’ll open what we think will be a surefire bet: a new mussel bar in Bethesda.

The Kitchen Troll still contends Wiedmaier’s Brasserie Beck sells the best mussels available.

The Mussel Bar by RW opens early June.

The food is not bad. The reason for low rating is service from no other than restaurant manager and owner. We went and my husband didn't have his ID with him. We are a couple in our late late thirties and look it. Since I had ID, I ordered the drink and my husband sipped from it. The owner and the manager started to yell at us as if we were teenage kids trying to get drunk in the middle of our meal. Threatening to throw us out if my husband drank another sip. I understood his policy but come on ...yelling at us...really?

I was beyond mortified and embarrassed. More for him than for us. I plan on telling everyone about how little he thinks of his patrons. I am also a writer so you can bet this is what's on my mind and where my writing energies will go.

For $12 beer...I was treated like crap. I implore anyone who feel this is uncalled for to ban going to this restaurant

Are you talking about RW? If so, this definitely doesn't sound like the same guy we met last Father's Day when we unknowingly were sitting next to him at Beck. We spent about half an hour passively admiring his family, not even realizing it was in fact him. Once we were told by our server that it was him, we spent 20 minutes just talking to him and his family on the way out (I felt a little bad about that one but in all honesty the conversation was more about families in general than him).

Now if you'd said this were Michael Landrum that would come as no surprise to anyone in town including him.

Robert does have a manager running things at Mussel Bar, so I'm hopeful this was one of RW's subordinates. If so, I'm betting he'd be more than interested in hearing from you since customer experience is definitely something at the top of his list of priorities, and I'd think it's a big part of why Marcel's is number one over Inn At Little Washington on Zagat's list.

Let us know if you got a name. We'll also be happy to provide feedback.
